Coffee
can help in the fight against cancer and that the more cups per day
make a person less risk of developing basal cell carcinoma, the most
common form of skin cancer.
The researchers who conducted this study belong to the University of Harvard and Brigham and Women's Hospital (USA). Fengju
Song, a dermatologist in charge of the study, explained that given the
number of people who get this cancer, "the protective effect dietary
factors could have a major impact on public health. Our work indicates
that coffee consumption may be an option important in preventing basal cell carcinoma. "
But
of course, it is clear that caffeine has its negative side, as by
exciting the central nervous system generates anxiety and sometimes
irritability. Prevents a good rest and can cause headaches or alter the heart rate.
WHAT IS THE BASAL CELL CARCINOMA
Basal cell carcinoma develops in the epidermis, ie the outermost layer of the skin. It usually starts in the neck or face, as a small wound or a sore that does not heal and can bleed.
In
most cases this cancer does not metastasize not spread to other parts
of the body, it invades the surrounding area where it arose.
COFFEE FOR SKIN
To
analyze the influence of coffee in the prevention of this cancer the
authors worked with 72,921 people and their health closely followed
between 1984 and 2008.
In turn, analyzed various lifestyle habits including how much coffee drank per day. A total of 25,480 volunteers developed skin cancer and 22,786 of them had a basal cell carcinoma.
Song
found that coffee made a difference in preventing basal cell carcinoma
as women who drank three cups per day had a 20% lower risk of developing
this disease.
In men who drank the same amount of coffee the risk was 9% lower.
And
for both men and women the amount of coffee consumed was inversely
proportional to their risk of developing basal cell carcinoma.
